AUGUST 14 – The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington presents Steve Earle on Thursday at 8pm. Earle “the hardcore troubadour” plays The Mahaiwe stage. Tickets are $38/$33 for members of Friends of the Mahaiwe. For information call Box Office at (413)-528-0100.

AUGUST 14 – Super Cold Science, which is presented and sponsored by the Boston Museum of Science, will be held at the Lenox Library Association on Thursday at 2pm. Amazing things happen when matter changes temperature. With the help of a museum educator and an intensely cold liquid, children will experience the remarkable changes of size, form, and behaviors that occur when a variety of objects and substances are super cooled. This program is appropriate for kindergarten through elementary school. If is free and no registration is required.

AUGUEST 15 – Ebru-The Art of Marbling Paper at the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge, MA on Wednesday, 11am – 3pm, a hands-on workshop, this ancient art form originated in the Far East, participants will create works on paper and fabric using the contemplative print making method of Ebru. Cost for members $35, nonmembers $45, all levels, material fee $20 paid to instructor, bring bagged lunch, (413)-298-3926.

AUGUST 15 – The Western Massachusetts Republicans will host its Annual Family Picnic and Barbeque on Friday, 5-9pm at the West Springfield Elk Pavilion, 429 Morgan Road. A catered dinner will be served at 5:30 , complimentary soft drinks, coffee and desserts, the cost is $20 per person, seniors $15 and children 12 and under free. Cash bar and entertainment. AUGUST 15-17 – This August, MASS MoCA welcomes Australia 's Strange Fruit, a troupe of acrobatic, dancing thespians who break stereotypes and bend imaginations and expectations as they perch on 15 foot tall swaying poles to perform a dance/theatre piece titled “Swoon”. Australia 's Strange Fruit will offer nine performances, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 1pm , 3pm and 5pm each day in Courtyard D or the Hunter Center is case of rain. Tickets are $8, available through Box Office located off Marshall St. in North Adams , open from 10 am to 6pm every day or purchased online at www.massmoca.org .

AUGUST 16 – Join new friends and old at the knee-snapping performance of the Monterey based contra dance band Bottom of the Bucket on Saturday at 8pm at the Sandisfield Arts Center. The four classically trained musicians will delight the audience with their eclectic mixture of fold and traditional fiddle music. Tickets are $10, reservations are recommended at (413) _258-4100.

AUGUST 16 – Acoustic Gospel, Soul and Blues and Singer and Violinist Charles Burnham and Hidden City. Armed with a whole set of original songs and backed by a stellar new band, avant blues fiddler, mandolinist and singer Burham's step into the spotlight has been a long time coming to MASS MoCA, Marshall Street, North Adams, (413)-662-2111. AUGUST 16 – The Town of New Marlborough will be celebrating its 34 th annual Elihu Burritt Day on Saturday, 10am to 3pm at the Village Green, Route 57. There will be craft vendors, children's activities, book sale, hay rides, petting zoo, food and artisan demonstrations.

AUGUST 16 – Shopkeepers and Farmers, Consumerism in 19 th Century North Egremont . Farming was once the main work of Egremont. Burt farmers and their families needed goods and services two centuries ago and often got them in North Egremont . AUGUST 16 – 17 – 17 th Annual Stockbridge Summer Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday and Sunday at the Berkshire Botanical Garden , Rtes 102 & 183, Stockbridge, sponsored by Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce. Over 95 artisans and crafters who will display their work ranging from paintings to ceramics, fiberware to glass blowing. All exhibitors are jury selected. AUGUST 16, 17 – The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers and teams for the first ever Relay for Life of Berkshire Hills set for Saturday and Sunday at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village. Relay for Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the nation to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise money for the fight against cancer. AUGUST 16, 23 – The Stockbridge Sinfonia, under the baton of its music director, Simeon Loring, will present “A Program of Classical Music” on Saturday at 10am at the First United Methodist Church, 55 Fenn St., Pittsfield. A second concert will be performed on Saturday, August 23 at 2pm at the Norman Rockwell Museum , Rte. 183, Stockbridge. Admission to both events is free. AUGUST 19 – The Lenox Library Association's Annual Ice Cram Social and Summer Reading Program Raffle will he held on Tuesday at 2pm . Following Terry a la Berry at 1, come celebrate the end of the 2008 Summer Reading Program. Sponsored by SOCO, everyone is invited to enjoy a dish of ice cream, visit with a few wild things and see who wins the raffle. This event if free to the public and no reservations.

AUGUST 19 – Berkshire 911 Truth will present a free film showing of ZERO: An Investigation into 9/1, a new feature documentary from the Italian production company Telemaco that explored the latest scientific evidence and reveals new witness testimony. The film includes presentations by Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo and author/historian Gore Vidal. The showing will be at Stockbridge Booksellers, 10 Elm St., Stockbridge, MA on Tuesday, 7:30pm. AUGUST 21 – On Thursday, 12 noon – 3pm, Mum Bett Day Celebration at the Ashley House in Sheffield . Commemorate Mum Bett, who sued for her freedom on this day in 1781 and was instrumental in ending slavery in Massachusetts . Discover where she worked and lived along the African American Heritage Trail, free to all.

AUGUST 22 – Standing Stones in the Garden, a hands-on workshop will be held at Berkshire Botanical Garden, Stockbridge on Friday, 10am-5pm, cost members $140, nonmembers $150, materials included in the workshop, bring safety goggles and a bagged lunch. Learn the amazing ancient art of hand carving symbols and words into stone with an emphasis on creating a decorative surface.

AUGUST 23 – The home and gardens of Barbara Maltby and Michael Janeway will be the scene of a musical on Saturday benefiting Crescendo, a non-profit organization that sponsors performances and music education programs in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut.
